Marucci Black

Two posts in one day?  What?! That’s Crazy.  Anyway, here’s another look at a video I shot for justbats.com.  Marucci is a bat manufacturer that produces a large portion of the bats you see in the MLB.  They are a young company, but really grew fast to become one of the hottest bat manufacturers of wood bats for the majors.  You will see tons of Marucci bats in little league, senior league, and even high school and college baseball.  So naturally we wanted to do something big when this new Marucci Black was introduced back in late October/ early November.  Their tagline for the Black is “Beware of the Black” so we played off that idea and shot this pitcher vs. hitter battle.  The beginning of the video shows a tie game in the 9th inning with 2 outs, so we know this is a crucial at-bat.  Obviously if you watch until the end of the video, the hitter crushes the ball into the black of the sky and we as the audience assume he hit a home run or got an RBI to win the game.  This shoot was so much fun to do!  We shot most of it at night out on a local high school baseball field.  One barrier we had to overcome was the fact that I’m an idiot and overloaded the outlets we had to use for our lights.  So a few of the closeup shots of the batter we ended up shooting inside, but it worked out all the same.  Again, this one was shot on the Canon 7D, which worked out very nicely for the slo-mo shots we did.  We shot everything except for the last three hits in 60p and then slowed it down in post to 24.  Overall I think it was a success.  Let me know what you think.  Enjoy!

 

Make this OFF season your IN season

Here’s a video I shot a few weeks ago for justbats.com.  We played around with some different ideas, but eventually landed on this one.  It’s basically about making your off season, and this could apply to anyone though we’re targeting baseball players, the best you possibly can so that when you step up to the plate or wander to the outfield this spring you will be the best player you can be.  I think there’s a lot to be said about a player’s habits and mechanics during an off season and I think it goes well beyond what the coaches and trainers have them do.  Shooting this was a blast!  We shot the entire thing on a Canon 7D, primarily using an 85mm f/1.8 with a 135mm f/2 thrown in a few times as well as a 17-40mm f/4.  Budget was a concern, so the shot of the guy running in the snow was shot mounted on a tripod out of the back of someones car.  I was sitting in their trunk, thankfully it was an SUV, and we had the trunk door wide open.  We lucked out as this was really the only snow we’ve had this year and I had already planned that shot with snow in it.  It still would have been effective without the snow, but come on, you gotta admit it looks way better with!  All in all I think it was a success.  More videos to come.  Enjoy and shalom.  Oh, and by the way, be sure to set the quality of the video to 720 (HD).

Daylen and Nadine : Married

Usually when friends ask me to photograph their wedding, I politely turn them down.  However, when my friends Daylen and Nadine came to me to shoot their wedding in the beautiful state of Wyoming, not to mention in December, I had to do it.  And I’m glad I did because it was a blast!  In fact, I actually felt like I was in a movie part of the time.  Friday night after the rehearsal was all said and done, the crowd headed back to Nadine’s parents house to share some food and fun.  People were playing music and singing along by the fire in a log cabin-type house with snow on the ground outside.  I mean, just looking at the scene made me feel like I was watching a movie.  On Saturday, after the ceremony was finished, Daylen and Nadine rushed out of the church to a horse drawn sleigh.  How much more cinematic can it get?  Well, at least a little more because we ice skated on Sunday morning with the Grand Tetons in the background.  It was pretty amazing to say the least.  Thank you Daylen, Nadine, and Nadine’s family for making the trip possible.  More importantly, congrats to Daylen and Nadine!  Enjoy.

Pat and Lora: Married

Lora and I used to camp out in the newsroom at UCM on wednesdays as the weekly issue of the Muleskinner was jumbled together.  And occasionally we’d all end up going out afterwards to celebrate our latest victory, usually somewhere on Pine St.  Molly (red hair, black glasses) was also part of our crew at the newspaper so it was good catching up with them last weekend!  Anyway, enjoy.

Nick and Kaitlyn: Married

I met Kaitlyn in college at UCM.  She was a bartender at a place called Heroes in Warrensburg and when she served us the “Unknown” drink it always seemed to be a little bit stronger!  Anyway, she asked me to photograph her wedding and it was awesome!  Her and Nick were so great to work with and the location they chose made it easy on me to get great shots of them.  Enjoy!

Dave and Suzanne Married

I grew up living on a cul-de-sac with many neighborhood kids, so you can imagine the fun we had playing in the street.  Suzanne and her family moved in when I was in my later grade school days and her kids were quite a bit younger, in fact my brother and I were the oldest kids in the cul-de-sac.  Despite the age difference we all played games, rode bikes, rollerbladed (which then turned into skateboarding), and all the usual fun childhood things.  The cul-de-sac families have always been pretty close, and even though my parents moved away they still to this day remain good friends.  When Suzanne got engaged to be re-married she called me up and asked if I’d shoot the wedding, which was at 1617 event space, right above Nara.  So here’s a little preview of what’s to come for Suzanne and Dave.  Enjoy!

 

Brad and Cailyn

Here’s a few shots I did a while back with Brad and Cailyn, some good friends from the Burg.  They both (especially Brad) have expressed how disappointed  they were with their wedding photos and so we scheduled a little shoot to give them something to write home, or uh, email about.  Enjoy!
